February wallpaper calendar

Luciana’s first Caprica episode aired last Friday, so it is only fitting that the wallpaper and calendar which our friend Cassie published a few days ago use a photo of Luciana as Pryah. The promo photo Cassie used was released several months ago, but interestingly it is not from the episode “The Reins of a Waterfall”. In which of the other two episodes this scene takes place is anyone’s guess, but it sure looks like something to look forward to.

Clicking on the wallpaper above will lead you to their respective pages on Cassie’s website, where you can download the full sized versions or browse the rest of Cassie’s large gallery containing her previous wallpapers and calendars as well as her Jamie Bamber and Battlestar Galactica fan art. Clicking on the Calendar will bring up the full sized image directly, as Cassie doesn’t have this one in her gallery.

You can also find many other wallpapers on the fansite’s wallpaper page, or discuss them here on the fanboard.

The Reins of a Waterfall - screen caps

Finally, the first episode of Caprica with Luciana premiered two days ago. Luciana again delivers proof of her versatility as an actress and shows a whole new side of her when she portrays Graystone Industries’ PR consultant, Pryah Magnus. She also sported a new, elegant look that was different from what we had seen before.

And of course I made some nice screen caps (resolution 1280 x 720), which you can view in the gallery below.

(Clicking on the pictures will get you to a slightly larger version, click on that for the full-sized screen cap.)

Now, if it only wasn’t for that big, annoying Syfy logo that’s right in her face in some of the shots…

Also, don’t forget that she’ll be in the next two episodes as well. So if you don’t watch Caprica already, you should start doing so — it’s a really good show.

Tonight: Luciana on Caprica

Tonight’s the night, my fellow friends and fans of Luciana’s!

Almost exactly six months after we learned that Luciana would have a recurring role on Caprica, the first of her episodes premieres tonight — at 9/8c on Syfy (or Space, if you’re in Canada).

“The Reins of a Waterfall” (1.03) was written by Michael Angeli and directed by Ronald D. Moore. Luciana plays Pryah, an assistant to Dr. Daniel Graystone, the wealthy genius who invented the Cylons.

Needless to say, we could hardly be more excited! We’ve been looking forward to this premiere for months, and I’m confident lots of Battlestar fans will be happy to see another familiar face on the prequel.

We’ll post clips, screencaps and a review as soon as possible.

February Anniversaries

At the beginning of each month, we look back at TV premieres, appearances at conventions, and other key dates in Luciana’s public life that occurred this month one or more years ago.

Luciana in I Want to Marry Ryan Banks

Luciana in the BSG episode "Scar"

February saw the premieres of many TV episodes (and there will be even more in next year’s February anniversaries sincr her Caprica episodes air this month, the first one today, actually) and a convention:

Austin Comic-Con in November

Only a short time after it was announced that Luciana would attend FedCon in Germany, an American convention added her to their guest list as well: Luciana will grace Wizard World’s Comic Con in Austin with her presence.

The only drawback is that you have to wait a while: The convention will take place from Friday, November 12, to Sunday, November 14, which is more than nine months from now. But on the bright side, this gives you quite  some time to prepare for meeting this lovely lady, and to make sure there won’t be anything else on your schedule that weekend.

Luciana is one of the first guests on their list, which is not really surprising as she has been at several Wizard World events and undoubtedly left quite an impression. But this will be her first event in Austin, and her first convention in Texas since the Dallas All-Con in 2007. So don’t miss this opportunity!

The other guests announced so far are Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Gary Friedrich (creator of the Ghost Rider comics) and Luciana’s fellow Caprica cast member, James Marsters (most famous for his role as Spike in Buffy and Angel).

Luciana and the Olmoses

Luciana adores the Olmoses. It’s about time we write about it — including some interview excerpts and two videos — and tell you how she got to know them.

The father: Edward James Olmos

Edward James Olmos is most famous for Blade Runner and Miami Vice, for his tireless community work, and as an outspoken advocate of many causes. As Admiral William Adama, he was the leading man on Battlestar Galactica, of course.

The Admiral and his CAG (Edward James Olmos and Luciana Carro)

When BSGcast did their first interview with Luciana at the “BSGcast in Las Vegas” event, they asked her why she had such a high opinion of Edward James Olmos. Here’s what she answered:

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Edward and everything that he’s done for the Latino community. I think he’s a first-rate actor. And he’s just so down to earth and humble and approachable. He’s like a father figure to rest of the cast… actually to the crew and the cast, everybody.

You can watch the full interview (or read the transcript) here at the Luciana Carro Fansite.

And while I’m at it, I would also recommend watching the following video which is a clip of Edward and Luciana’s Q&A panel at last year’s Chicago Comic-Con. Eddie remembers the day he, Mary McDonnell, David Eick and Ronald D. Moore were at the United Nations headquarters in New York and talked about some of the profound issues touched upon by their show, especially racism and racial equality.

Luciana doesn’t say anything in this clip, but it’s obvious that she admires Eddie, and how much she enjoys listening to him.

Now on to the other adorable man in the family…

Cute scenes from Urgency

Although indie thriller Urgency has been available on DVD in Region 4 for several weeks, we have yet to get our hands on a copy, unfortunately. And we still don’t know when the movie will be released in Region 1 or 2.

Fortunately, a good friend of ours kindly uploaded a video of two charming scenes starring Brian Austin Green and Luciana as a married couple.

Direct download (mp4, 5 MB — right-click to save file)

Aww… they are so cute together!

It’s very interesting to see Luciana portray yet another facet of sensuality. Just compare that scene to The Chris Isaak Show, The L Word, Passageway, or her hooker roles, for example – what a range of expressions and gestures. Well, I’m told the rest of the movie is very different from these scenes, but we very much look forward to all the other Sofia moments, too, of course.

Oh, and just in case you’re new — here’s the synopsis:

Luciana to attend FedCon in Germany

Have you ever heard of FedCon? It’s Europe’s largest annual science-fiction convention. Each year, thousands of fans from all over the world gather at Maritim Hotel in Bonn, Germany, to celebrate their shared love of the genre, and to meet more than a dozen actors from Star Trek and other sci-fi shows.

I’ve been there twice, meeting scores of friends and half a dozen Battlestar actors each time – it’s hard to explain what a massive and thrilling experience FedCon is. Imagine a giant auditorium with three thousand enthusiastic fans chanting “So Say We All!” to greet the Admiral himself, Eddie Olmos! Plus, it’s a really  well-run show, and unlike most conventions, they tape all the Q&As and activities, and sell brilliant DVDs six months later.

…and this year, Luciana will be one of their guests! :-)

FedCon XIX
April 30 – May 2, 2010

Bonn, Germany

Other Battlestar/Caprica guests: Aaron Douglas, James Marsters, Kandyse McClure, Michael Trucco

Needless to say, Luciana at FedCon is a dream come true. I’m so gonna be there! As goes for Frosty_JG, my writing partner here at this blog and a fellow German.

And it’s not just us (or the other fans in attendance) who’ll benefit from Luciana’s appearance at FedCon: She has agreed to participate in the Fedlympics, an entertaining, multi-stage Wii tournament. Most importantly, each contestant is asked to pay an entrance fee. The fee is donated to charity projects supported by FedCon.

Luciana will join Team Eureka, the defending champion, and like every other contestant, she will compete in Mario Kart, table tennis (from Wii Sports Resort) and Shake it (from Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party). How’s that for making a difference and having fun at the same time? This is gonna be great, and I promise to take pictures of this activity in particular. *g*

Three months to go…

P.S.: When Luciana attended Crossroads (a small Stargate/Battlestar convention in Germany) in November 2007, SF-Radio did a short interview with her. This was their first question:

SF-Radio: Is there any other convention you would like to attend?

Luciana: FedCon! (laughs) I would love to be at FedCon. But… we’ll see.

Heh. Ask, and ye shall receive… two and a half years later :-)

Countdown to Caprica

This is a fantastic time to be a fan of the Battlestar universe: On January 22, the TV edit of Caprica’s two-hour pilot finally aired, and just a few days ago, we were treated to the brand-new second episode, “Rebirth”. Most importantly, Luciana’s first appearance as Daniel Graystone’s assistant, Pryah, is less than a week away!

A prequel to the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, Caprica is a thought-provoking, well-written and well-acted drama set in a retrofuturistic Caprica City, 58 years before the fall the Twelve Colonies depicted in the Battlestar miniseries. I’m really excited and passionate about this promising show, its compelling characters and all the conflicts that are about to unfold. Highly recommended!

In fact, one of the reasons why I didn’t write a single post for this blog in January is that I was super busy working on Caprica City, the German fansite that some buddies and I have dedicated to the makers and fans of Battlestar and Caprica.

More Propworx Kat auctions

Propworx, the company which auctioned off many props and pieces of the sets of Battlestar Galactica on eBay and during live auctions (where Luciana was present), started several new rounds of eBay auctions in the recent weeks. Surprisingly, this week’s batch includes two items related to Kat!

The first one is a backup version of the memorial wall photo, which was not used on the show, plus radiation badges (which were not used by Luciana though) from “The Passage”.

The second auction is more interesting. It’s a set of documents containing recon information about New Caprica, and according to the auction description these were used by Kat during the planning session in Adama’s quarters in the episode “Precipice”.

the auction items

Now, as you can see in the screen cap below, Kat had some papers on her lap during this strategy session, but it’s impossible to tell whether these really are the ones that are now being auctioned off:

If you are interested in those items, hurry, you have four days left to place your bids.

Now go get these maps so you can start planning your own assault on the Cylon forces occupying New Caprica. ;-)
